Museums that actually work with children
Everyone thinks of museums on rainy days — but few are genuinely child-friendly. On the French Riviera, a handful stand out: the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco impresses from age 5 with giant aquariums and sharks. In Nice, the Museum of Modern Art runs creative workshops on Wednesdays. In Biot, the Fernand Léger National Museum has developed interactive children's trails.
The big advantage of Nice's municipal museums: free entry for everyone, no exceptions. The Masséna Museum, Palais Lascaris or the Museum of Asian Arts let you spend an hour or two for free — perfect for families who go out often.
Creative workshops: pottery, painting, cooking and more
Creative workshops are one of the best rainy-day options: children leave with something they made themselves, which makes the outing memorable. Pottery, canvas painting, cooking, jewellery, wood engraving — the offer is very rich on the French Riviera.
Most workshops welcome children from 4 to 6 years old and last 1.5 to 2 hours. Always book ahead: Wednesday and Saturday morning slots are the most popular. Budget around €20–35 per child per session.
Indoor pools and water centres
Indoor pools are perfect on rainy days, especially with toddlers. Nice has several municipal pools with family slots and baby swim sessions. In Cannes, the Pierre de Coubertin pool has a children's pool. In Antibes, the Azureva aquatic centre offers fun sessions.
Baby swim sessions (usually 0–3 years) are highly popular: they combine water play, sensory stimulation and socialisation. Sign-ups often open in September, but one-off discovery sessions are available year-round without a subscription.
Escape rooms, trampolines and other indoor activities
For children 7 and older, family escape rooms have multiplied across the French Riviera. Child-friendly scenarios typically last 45–60 minutes and mix observation, problem-solving and teamwork — great for older children who get bored quickly in museums.
Indoor trampoline parks (Freestyle in Nice, Jump Planet in Antibes, etc.) exhaust kids in 90 minutes — no small feat on a rainy day. Bring special socks (often sold on-site) and book online to skip the queue.

Frequently asked questions
Are there free activities on rainy days on the French Riviera?+
Yes: Nice's municipal museums are free for everyone. Every city's media library (médiathèque) runs free Wednesday activities. Some shopping centres (Polygone Riviera, Cap 3000) have free play areas.
What can we do with a baby (under 1) on a rainy day?+
Indoor baby swim sessions, baby massage workshops, sensory play rooms and museums (babies always enter free) are the best options. Family-friendly restaurants with an enclosed play corner also work well.
Are creative workshops suitable for very young children?+
Most workshops welcome children from 4–5 years old. For younger children (2–3 years), look for 'artistic awakening' or 'baby painting' sessions with sensory-based activities. The Gokido directory filters activities by minimum age.
